Butterflies & Flowers

At first, I painted butterflies and flowers separately. Then I invented the ‘Butterfly View’ concept, with only the butterfly shape(s) done in gold leaf flying over the flowery field. These paintings give the viewer a feeling of ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’, as if you can step through the butterfly into the painting itself. This feeling is exaggeratted  when the room’s lights are turned off and on, causing either the gold to become prominent (lights off) or the inner painting to be intensified (lights on). I have one of my butterfly views hanging in my dining room and find it’s a cute trick to show my guests at a dinner party!
